LaBrae’s Kiser notches 200th career victory

≤ LaBRAE 84, BROOKFIELD 46: LEAVITTSBURG — LaBrae coach Chad Kiser has had seen plenty of wins in his career as boys basketball coach of the Vikings.

Friday, he hit a milestone with 200 victories.

There’s been a Division III Final Four appearance with Davidson College junior Peyton Aldridge and plenty of other key wins for the Vikings over the years, including an Associated Press Division III state poll title last season.

“It’s a special accomplishement for the program, not me as an individual,” Kiser said after Friday’s victory over the Warriors. “To get 200 wins is special because it’s a lot of hard work by my coaching staff and players.”

He’s been assisted by his brothers Brian and Jeff thoughout the years. The three of them played for Windham coach Marty Hill, who reached 600 victories a couple of years ago.

“We owe a lot of that to him,” Chad Kiser said of the LaBrae program.

Tyler Stephens led LaBrae (12-0, 6-0 AAC Blue Tier) with 22 points, while Benton Tennant had 13 for a team ranked fifth in the latest state Division III poll.

Conner Stevens led Brookfield (0-13, 0-9) with 14 points, while Connor Filipovich added 10.

≤ CHAMPION 55, CAMPBELL 48: CAMPBELL — Joe Abramovich had a game-high 19 points to lead the Golden Flashes past the Red Devils in this AAC Blue Tier game.

Drake Batcho and Chase Wheelock each had 10 points for Champion (9-6, 7-2), which had won four straight games.

≤ STRUTHERS 63, NILES 47: NILES — Struthers used a solid offensive game to get the road win in All-American Conference White Tier play.

Struthers was led by Isaiah Torreance with 15 points with four 3-pointers and Carson Ryan with 14 points.

Niles (2-13, 1-8) has now lost four straight games. The Red Dragons were led by Cyler Kane-Johnson with 28 points and Jalen Royal with eight points.

≤ EDGEWOOD 68, HUBBARD 40: ASHTABULA — Edgewood led just 33-24 at halftime and got the win by outscoring Hubbard 35-16 to win in All-American Conference White Tier action.

Hubbard (6-8, 4-5) was led by Bashar Rasoul with 10 points. No one else scored in double figures.

Edgewood was led by Ricky Baldwin with 20 points.

≤ CANFIELD 50, AUSTINTOWN FITCH 31: CANFIELD — Canfield used a great defensive first half to get the win against Austintown Fitch in All-American Conference Red Tier play.

Canfield (9-4, 5-1) led at halftime 27-10 and that more than enough. The Cardinals were led by Conor Crogan with 10 points and Kyle Gamble with nine points.

Austintown Fitch (6-7, 3-4) was led by Rand Smith with 13 points and Cole Constance with seven points.
