JFK tops Aquinas; Howland edges Canfield on road

¯ JOHN F. KENNEDY 55, ST. THOMAS AQUINAS 47: LOUISVILLE — John F. Kennedy used good second and third quarters to get the road win over St. Thomas Aquinas in North Coast League White Division.

Kennedy (6-5, 1-1) was tied with St. Thomas after the first quarter at 16. It outscored St. Thomas 26-16 in the middle quarters. The Eagles were led by Gianni Eaton with 14 points while Tyler James had 10 points, 18 rebounds, five blocks and four steals.

St. Thomas was led by J.P. DiMammio with 15 points. Jacaz Minky also helped the Knights with 12 points.

Both teams hit seven threes.

¯ HOWLAND 55, CANFIELD 53: CANFIELD — A solid game all-around for Howland saw it get a big road win over Canfield in All-American Conference Red Tier play.

Howland (8-4, 4-2) was led by Connor Tamarkin with 18 points. Nathan Barrett and Frank Rappach both finished with eight points each.

Canfield (8-4, 4-1) was led by Ian McGraw with 18 points with four 3-pointers while Zach Tinkey finished with 16 points with four 3-pointers.

Howland outrebounded Canfield, 29-21 but the Cardinals hit two more threes than the Tigers.

¯ LIBERTY 49, BROOKFIELD 43: LIBERTY — A bad second quarter by Brookfield was enough for Liberty get a needed win in All-American Conference Blue Tier play.

Liberty (3-7, 2-4) was led by Dra Rushton with 16 points and Josh Green with 10 points. Liberty snagged 10 steals and had six assists.

Brookfield (0-11, 0-7) scored just three points in the second quarter. The Warriors were led by Nate Smoot with 14 points with four 3-pointers.

Liberty outrebounded Brookfield, 28-24. Brookfield hit nine threes to Liberty’ four but the Leopards hit 17 free throws to the Warriors’ four.

¯ GIRARD 57, CAMPBELL 54: GIRARD — Girard used a good defensive fourth quarter to down Campbell in All-American Conference Blue Tier action.

Girard (6-8, 3-4) was led by Austin Clausell with 22 points with four 3-pointers. David Blackmon added 13 points and Christian Graziano had eight points all from the free throw line.

Campbell was led by Rayshawn Hicks and Trae Edwards with 15 points each.

Girard won the game at the free throw line with 14 made free throws to Campbell’s four. The Indians also hit one more three than the Red Devils.

¯ STRUTHERS 68, HUBBARD 63: HUBBARD — A bad offensive third quarter was enough for Struthers to get the win over Hubbard in All-American Conference White Tier play.

Hubbard (5-6, 3-3) was led by four guys in double figures with Cam Resatar (17), Nick Ferrara (13), Shannon Slovesko (12) and Bashar Rasoul (10).

Struthers used a good night from Isaiah Torreance with 18 points, Brandon Washington with 13 and Carson Ryan with 13 points to get the win.

Hubbard lost despite hit nine 3-pointers to Struthers’ seven.

Girls

¯ POLAND 67, LAKESIDE 26: ASHTABULA — The Bulldogs (10-3, 6-0) jumped out to a 30-2 lead after the first quarter of the All-American Conference White Tier game. Poland led 45-8 at halftime.

Bella Gajdos led the offense with 20 points and Sarah Bury added 15.
