3 area wrestlers 1st at Top Gun

ALLIANCE — Three Mahoning Valley wrestlers claimed titles, and Austintown Fitch placed second as a team at the 32nd annual Top Gun Tournament on Saturday. The Falcons’ Gus Sutton and Michael Ferree each won their respective weight class, and Girard’s Jack DelGarbino dominated at heavyweight.

Fitch’s Sutton won the 126-pound weight class, beating Joey Miller of Musselman, 4-1, in overtime. Ferree was first at 160 pounds, defeating Luke Reicosky of Hoover, 6-5, in the ultimate tiebreaker period of overtime. Fitch’s Breylon Douglas was second at 195 pounds, losing, 6-2, to Ben Smith of Hoover in the championship match. The Falcons’ Colin Roberts was fourth at 106 pounds, and 285-pound Tyler Petrey placed seventh. Fitch’s 152.5 points was second to St. Vincent-St. Mary’s 182. Olentangy was third with 149.

DelGarbino pinned all five of his opponents in the 285-pound weight class. He capped an impressive performance with a pin of Minerva’s Travis Kuttler in the finals.

Boardman’s Michael O’Horo placed third at 182 pounds to lead the Spartans.
