Liberty rallies in 4th quarter

≤ LIBERTY 40, CRESTVIEW 36: LIBERTY — Liberty came back from a 33-25 fourth-quarter deficit to edge the Rebels in a nonconference clash.

The Leopards (1-1) rallied with a 15-3 advantage in the fourth quarter. Liberty’s Sharda Williamson led all scorers with 16 points. Karrington Rucker notched 10 points.

Krista Perry paced the Rebels with 13 points.

≤ CARDINAL 55, GRAND VALLEY 48: MIDDLEFIELD — Cardinal went on a big third-quarter run and dominted the second half to rally for a victory over the Mustangs.

The Huskies (4-0) trailed 29-20 at halftime, but they outscored Grand Valley, 21-19, in the third quarter and 35-19 overall in the second half to pull away. Hanna Traggiai (17 points), Camille Cummins (16) and Ashley Gubanyar (11) paced Cardinal. Cummins also had 20 rebounds.

Abby Triskett led the Mustangs (1-2) with 14 points. Genesis Fultz and Brandy Smith added 11 and 10 points, respectively.

≤ MATHEWS 71, BADGER 50: VIENNA — Cara Bornemiss scored 24 points, Carly Pratt had 18 and Emily Strama added 17 as Mathews posted its first win of the season.

The Mustangs (1-2, 1-1 Northeastern Athletic Conference) jumped to a 24-13 lead after one quarter as Pratt scored eight points. Badger (1-2, 0-2) cut the lead to 37-31 at halftime before a 15-5 third quarter opened the Mathews lead to 52-36. Badger was led by Haylee Mott with 17 points and Brooke Morgan with nine.

≤ PYMATUNING VALLEY 56, MAPLEWOOD 26: MECCA — Pymatuning Valley’s Madison Hurst played a big role in the Lakers pulling away from Maplewood in a Northeastern Athletic Conference matchup.

Hurst scored a game-high 18 points, including eight in the third quarter, when the Lakers blew open a close game with a 16-7 run. PV’s Paige Sloan put in 14 points as the Lakers improved to 3-1, 2-0.

Heidi Stiffler and Madison Murray each scored a team-best eight for Maplewood (0-3, 0-1).

≤ CHALKER 45, WINDHAM 26: WINDHAM — Chalker’s defense allowed them to cruise past Windham in a NAC clash.

The Wildcats (2-1, 1-0) put the game out of reach in the first half by holding the Bombers to just seven points. Courtey Warnick paced the offense with a game-high 16 points. Nine different players scored for Chalker.

Windham (0-4, 0-2) was outscored 16-5 in the second quarter. The Bombers’ Ashlyn Riggs scored a team-high seven.

≤ WATERLOO 37, McDONALD 32: ATWATER — Waterloo erased an eight-point fourth-quarter deficit with a dominating final eight minutes in a Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference victory.

The Vikings (4-0) trailed, 30-22, going into the final stanza, but they outscored McDonald, 15-2, in the fourth quarter. Becky Adelman recorded seven of her 14 in the fourth, while Aleck Franks registered six of her 12.

Britney Smith paced McDonald (1-1, 0-1) with 12 points. Olivia Perry added 11.

≤ MINERAL RIDGE 45, LOWELLVILLE 33: LOWELLVILLE — Alexa Harkins scored a game-high 14 points as the Rams defeated Lowellville in a Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference matchup.

Mineral Ridge outscored the Rockets 13-9 in both the second and fourth quarters to extend its lead.

Maddie Kelly paced Lowellville with 13 points.

≤ WESTERN RESERVE 73, SEBRING 23: SEBRING — Kennedy Miller made six 3-pointers on the way to a 22-point effort as Western Reserve wons its Mahoning Valley Athletic Conference opener. The Blue Devils (3-0 overall) rolled out to a 23-9 lead after one quarter and led 43-18 at halftime.

Laura Sigworth added 13 points and five steals for the Devils and Alyssa Serensky had 10 points, nine rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Sebring was paced by Olivia Woods with 12 points.
