LaBrae goes to 4-0; Falls nips Girard in OT

≤ LABRAE 80, LIBERTY 57: LEAVITTSBURG — Logan Kiser scored nine of his 20 points in the first quarter as the Vikings jumped out to an 18-7 lead, then added eight points in the third quarter when LaBrae (4-0, 1-0 All-American Conference Blue Tier) extended a 36-21 halftime lead to 57-35.

Aaron Iler also scored 20 points for LaBrae, including 13 in the first half.

Liberty (1-3, 1-1) was led by Dra Rushton with 18 points and Ezell Brown with 12.

≤ NEWTON FALLS 50, GIRARD 48: GIRARD — Adam Honeycutt sank a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime, then Gage Friend scored six of his 14 points in the extra session for the Tigers (3-1, 2-0 All-American Conference Blue Tier).

Chris Rankin also scored 14 for the Tigers and Preston Rapczyk added 12.

Austin Claussell of Girard (1-4, 0-2) scored a game high 26 points.

The Indians led 17-12 at halftime before Falls rallied to within 24-23 heading into the final quarter.

≤ CHAMPION 68, BROOKFIELD 52: BROOKFIELD — Drake Batcho and Champion buried Brookfield with a dominant first half and rolled to an All-American Conference, Blue Tier road victory.

The Golden Flashes (1-2, 1-1) took a 38-19 first-half lead on the back of a big night by Batcho. The senior forward scored 15 of his game-high 25 in the first half. Gabe Deuble followed with 13 total points, and Joe Abramovich put in 12 more.

Brookfield (0-4, 0-2) made a slight run, outscoring the Golden Flashes, 19-12, in the third quarter, but Champion made free throws down the stretch to seal the victory. Conner Stevens paced the Warriors with 18 points (four 3-pointers), and Brady Reichart added 10.

≤ HUBBARD 60, LAKEVIEW 58: HUBBARD — In a game that put two evenly-matched teams together, Hubbard found a way to win.

Despite a 10-point lead after the first quarter, Lakeview (2-2, 1-1 All-American Conference White Tier) couldn’t hold on. Hubbard (3-2, 2-0) used a 19-10 third quarter to get the win.

Davion Daniels led the Eagles with 15 points. Three other players scored in double figures in Nick Ferrara (11), Cam Resatar (12) and Shannon Slovesko (14). Daniel Evans paced Lakeview with 15 points. A.J. McClellan had 13 and Jeff Rimmick had 10 to help the Bulldogs.

≤ POLAND 77, NILES 53: NILES — After a bad first quarter by Niles, Poland cruised to victory with good defense.

Poland (4-0, 1-0 All-American Conference White Tier) got out to a hot start as Braeden O’Shaungnessy scored seven of his 19 points in the opening quarter. Niles scored just one point in the first stanza and trailed 40-10 at halftime. Da’Jon Motley scored 16 points to lead the Red Dragons.

Despite hitting more threes than Poland, it was too little, too late for Niles. Brandon Barringer also helped the Bulldogs with 18 points, while Corbin Foy helped Niles with 15 points.

≤ NORTH ROYALTON 71, CARDINAL MOONEY 60: NORTH ROYALTON — A bad first and fourth quarter by Cardinal Mooney became the difference against North Royalton.

Mooney (0-3) hit more 3-pointers than North Royalton (2-0) but it didn’t translate to a victory. Pete Haas led the Cardinals with 21 points, including five 3-pointers.

The Bears’ Jack Bunsey had a team-best 17 points. Akram Abuhamdeh hit three 3-pointers for North Royalton in the win. Anthony Fire added 14 points to the Cardinals’ cause, while Jordan Stanford had 12 points.
