Austintown project gets started

AUSTINTOWN — Ground breaking took place Wednesday for a $2.2-million dollar Austintown Athletic Complex project in the area behind Greenwood Falcon Stadium.

The project will include re-turfing Greenwood Falcon Stadium and turfing Coppola Baseball Field as well as the grass area located behind the stadium, which will be used as a soccer/multi-purpose field.

The project will also include a new Daktronics video enhanced scoreboard/ videoboard inside the Fitch gymnasium, lighting for the baseball field, and a softball fieldhouse at 9/11 Memorial Park.

The project was approved by the Board of Education at the Oct. 31 meeting. The district is loaning the funds to the athletic department. The athletic department will pay the district back by raising funds from sponsorships and corporate/private donations/grants.

Contact the athletic department if you have an interest in being a part of this project.

While work is done, the entire complex, including the track, will be shut down.
