Liberty rips Falcons; Boardman nips Irish
JEFFERSON — The Liberty Leopards (6-2) played a close game until the fourth quarter when they blew the game wide open in a 52-18 rout of Jefferson (1-7).
Dra Rushton ran for four touchdowns and 246 yards as Liberty had a total of 343 yards on the ground.
At the end of the third quarter, Liberty was ahead 26-18. Rushton put the game out of reach with three of his four touchdowns in the final quarter.
For the Falcons, quarterback JJ Henson did it all as their leading passer and rusher. He ran for 67 yards and threw for 70 yards.
Liberty was able to pull away late but no thanks to nearly 90 penalty yards on the night. The Leopards’ defense held Jefferson to 121 yards in the game.
BOARDMAN 20, URSULINE 14, 2OT: YOUNGSTOWN — Boardman rallied to tie the game late in the fourth quarter and won it in the second overtime of a back-and-forth battle.
Michael O’Horo hit Jajuan Forte for an 18-yard touchdown pass in the second overtime. The score came after the Spartans (5-3) forced a fumble on Ursuline’s first overtime possession and then stopped the Irish on downs in the second OT.
O’Horo also scored twice on the ground, including the game-tying TD — a six-yard run with 1 minute, 9 seconds left. He finished 16-of-23 for 178 yards, one TD and zero interceptions. He also ran for 48 yards.
Joey Floyd led the Irish (2-6) with 170 yards. Quarterback Jared Fabry ran for TDs of seven and 40 yards.
