LaBrae is all business in win over NF
LEAVITTSBURG — It was business as usual for the LaBrae Vikings.
Junior quarterback Kent Wolford led the LaBrae Vikings to 48-7 rout over their neighborhood rival Newton Falls Tigers with an impressive five-touchdown game Friday night at LaBrae High School.
After scoring twice in the first quarter on short TD runs, Wolford added three touchdown passes and also intercepted one on the defensive side. He finished the game with nine completions in 13 attempts for 198 yards.
“We came out, and we took care of business. That was our goal, to get a little better tonight, and our guys did that,” LaBrae coach John Armeni said. “We took care of business, and we played with class.”
The victory keeps LaBrae (4-3, 3-1) in contention in the All-American Conference Blue Tier. Newton Falls is 3-4, 1-1.
Wolford connected with Tyler Stephens on two touchdown plays. Running back Colton Stoneman had another score. Stoneman ran for a score, as did Walt Allie. Benton Tennant had three catches for 73 yards, Stephens totaled 78 yards on his two catches and Stoneman rushed for 62 yards on six carries.
The Newton Falls offense felt the loss of senior running back Billy Wright, putting up only 146 yards on 52 total offensive plays. His brother, Jacob, took the reins for the Tigers, putting up 67 rushing yards.
Wright and Colton Hunt had impressive games despite the final result, Hunt with three receptions for 51 yards and a touchdown.
The Vikings came out and dominated despite penalty troubles (10 penalties for 105 yards).
Both teams face AAC Blue Tier opponents next week, with Newton Falls returning home to face Girard, and LaBrae heading to Brookfield to face the struggling Warriors.
