JFK names new coach

John F. Kennedy High School has named Tom Elder as the school’s new varsity baseball coach, replacing longtime coach Don Lee who retired in the spring.

“We are pleased to have coach Elder join our Kennedy athletic family as the new head baseball coach,” athletic director Jeff Bayuk said. “His longtime commitment to various local baseball organizations will be an asset in maintaining the excellence in our program by longtime baseball coach Don Lee, who retired last spring.”

Elder, a 1983 graduate of JFK, most recently served as assistant coach at Kennedy. He also previously was an assistant coach at Warren G. Harding for more than 15 years.

He has coached in the Warren Athletic Club since 2005 and has been the organization’s president since 2007. His 2015 (10-year-old), 2016 (11-year-old), and 2017 (12-year-old) Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken teams earned state champion honors.
