Howland, Niles fall to Mahoning County teams
BOARDMAN 35, HOWLAND 17: BOARDMAN — The Spartans outscored Howland 14-3 in the third quarter to pull away for good. Quarterback Mike O’Horo threw three touchdown passes on the night, and rushed for another one.
Boardman (2-0) gained 423 yards of offense, thanks in part to Domonhic Jennings 128-yard night. O’Horo, meanwhile, was 16-for-25 for 200 yards through the air, and scored on a short touchdown run in the second quarter to put the Spartans back in the lead.
Howland (1-1) was held to just a field goal in the second half, and gained just 199 yards overall. Samari Dean completed 7-of-11 passes for 99 yards, including a 21-yard touchdown pass to Nathan Barrett, which cut the deficit to 21-14 at half.
POLAND 42, NILES 10: POLAND — Dante Romano rushed for 173 yards and Jonah Spencer added 130 as the Bulldogs (2-0) pounded out 365 yards on the ground in a game that counted in both the Red and White Tiers of the All-American Conference.
Niles got a 113-yard rushing performance from Robbie Savin and a 169-yard passing effort from Jordan Soda. Jason Johns caught six passes for Niles (0-2) and Trent Johnson and Nate Fowler added four apiece.
Poland led 14-3 at haltime, then scored the next three touchdowns to put the game out of reach.
