Grand Valley scored three runs to open the game and held a 4-2 lead in the middle of the fourth before Hawken erupted for a four-run fourth and went on to beat the Mustangs, 6-5, in a Division III district semifinal Tuesday at LaBrae High School.
GV’s run in the fifth set the final score. The Mustangs, who had 10 hits on the day against Faxon, were held scoreless in the last two innings.
Nick Reichek had a triple and a double, Gary Gearhart and Jude Cunningham had two singles apiece and Anthony Crum doubled for the Mustangs.
Jenna Gibson banged out three doubles and drove in six runs as top-seeded Canfield defeated Solon, 8-5, Tuesday in a Division I district semifinal at Roxbury Field in Solon.
The Cardinals trailed 5-1 before tying the game with a four-run bottom of the third. A run in the fourth put Canfield ahead for good and two in the sixth clinched the victory.
Bridget Durkin earned the win for the Cardinals who now face Boardman today in the district title game.
