NF girls soccer falls short against Rootstown

Newton Falls came up short in their Division III Kent District girls soccer district semifinal game against Rootstown, 2-1.

Tara Backherms scored the Tigers’ only goal, while Miciah Butler had seven saves. Jesse Dickinson had both goals for Rootstown, as the Rovers advanced to the district title game at Lakeview on Thursday night, against No. 1 Champion.

In the Austintown district, Ursuline defeated Canton Central Catholic, 2-1, in a Division III girls soccer district semifinal Monday. Jen Woodford had an early goal to put Ursuline on the board, 1-0, while Taylor Tomlinson added the second goal in the 70th minute. Ursuline plays Mooney on Thursday in the district title game.

Cardinal Mooney beat St. Thomas, 8-0, in a Division III girls soccer district semifinal on Monday night. Elizabeth Philbin and Carolyn Kay each had three goals, while Breanna Evans had three assists.
