Canfield team in state semifinals
MASON — Canfield’s doubles team of Hannah and Sydney Cianciola, a No. 1 seed out the Akron District, advanced to today’s state semifinal of the Division I state tennis tournament at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.
The Canfield team plays North Canton Hoover’s Hallie Hunt and Alessa Koinoglou, a No. 4 seed from the Akron District, in one of today’s semifinals.
The Cianciolas beat Upper Arlington’s Evelyn and Nicole Holman in Friday’s round of 16, 6-0, 6-0.
Then, the Canfield doubles team beat Cincinnati Ursuline Academy’s Ellie Foster and Gabriella O’Connor in the quarterfinals, 6-1, 7-6 (8-6) — leading up to today’s semifinal.
The winner of this match faces the winner of the other semifinal — Magnificat’s Molly Bauer and Ana Lopez vs. Green’s Anne and Maria Zivick — in the state championship doubles match.
The Green team, a No. 2 seed, like Canfield and North Canton Hoover, came from the Akron District.
The Cianciolas beat the Zivicks in straight sets to win the Akron District title, while the Hoover team lost to the Zivicks in an Akron District semifinal and eventually finished fourth.
