Area players to appear in North-South games

Four area basketball players are scheduled to take part in the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association’s annual boys and girls North-South all-star games.

Niles standout Cameron Kane-Johnson will play for the North in the boys Division I-II game which is scheduled April 22 at 8 p.m. at Otterbein University. The boys Division III-IV game starts at 6:30 that same evening.

Howland sharpshooter Victoria Rappach will play for the girls Division I-II North team and Gabby Kline of Newton Falls and Brittany Knight of Windham will be teammates on the Division II-IV North squad.

The girls games are scheduled April 23 at Denison University with the III-IV game at 2:30 p.m. and the I-II game at 4.

Several athletes sign with respective colleges

Several area high school football players recently announced their college choices and a trio of Austintown Fitch track and field athletes will announce theirs next month.

LaBrae’s Joe Percich will continue his athletic and academic careers at Ashland University, and his Viking teammate Austin Higley is headed to Grove City College.

Jackson-Milton standout Anthony Italiano, meanwhile, is headed to Hiram College.

Fitch throwing star Logan Kusky will announce his choice on April 13. He has narrowed his choices to Ohio State, Notre Dame or Pittsburgh.

Falcon teammate Jake Dorbish, also a thrower, will sign with Youngstown State, and distance runner Matt Rozic is going to Duquesne.

Free high jump clinic to be held Sunday at WATTS

The Greater Youngstown Track Officials Association is hosting a free high jump clinic at the WATTS on Youngstown State University’s campus on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.

This clinic is open to all OHSAA officials as well as coaches and will count as a local rules interpretation credit. Parking will be available in the M5 parking lot, directly behind the WATTS.

Deb Satterfield and Liz Tomory will lead the event. Satterfield has been an official for almost 15 years, while Tomory has been a certified OHSAA official for over 20 years. Both have NCAA experience.

In addition to high jump presentation, a “Council of Elders” will be available to help answer any questions you may on any track topic. The Council will include John Daubenspeck, Jim Fox, Lou Brown, Rob Conklin and Ed Katzman.
