JFK finishes 6th at Punderson

NEWBURY – John F. Kennedy’s boys golf team had to battle through unfavorable course conditions, as well as being the small fish in the big pond during Wednesday’s 18-hole round of the Kenston Invitational at Punderson State Park Golf Course. The Eagles were the only Division III team among mainly Division I schools.

Kennedy made the most out of the longer par-72 course with a sixth-place finish – tying Willoughby South at 344.

“Considering the conditions, not too bad,” Kennedy coach Jim St. George said. “I like 330 and under to be our number. Under the conditions, it was not too bad. It was one of our better finishes against Division-I schools.”

Mentor won with 320, while Notre Dame-Cathedral Latin took second with 322 – led by freshman medalist Charlie Toman with a 71, 1-under par 72.

Ryan Fowler led the Eagles with a 75, followed by Daniel LaPolla with a 79.

The Eagles tee off today at Alliance Country Club in the Alliance Invitational, starting at 9 a.m.
