Canfield scores 45 straight, beats East

YOUNGSTOWN — Canfield’s defense clamped down on host East Saturday at Rayen Stadium, 45-8

The Cardinals (6-2, 2-0 All-American Conference, Red Tier) held the Panthers (1-7, 0-3) to 10 yards.

East had 14 rushes for minus-5 yards.

Jake Cummings led Canfield with 18 carries for 117 yards and third-quarter 21-yard score.

East took an 8-0 lead after the first quarter, but Canfield scored the final 45 points.

Colin Hritz and Vinnie Florenza each had TD passes as the Cardinals combined, along with Cummings, for 3-of-7 for 121 yards.

The Cardinals, 11th in Division III, Region 9, face Howland (6-2) in a crucial AAC Red battle in Week 9 — one which could keep Canfield’s playoff hopes alive.
