Drama in "Letters to the Editor"

Can the authors of our letters to the editor please stick to facts rather than dramatic political talking points? Seriously, "Obamacare is Slavery" and "Limbaugh Needs to Read the Bible"? How can there be honest, open political debate when people use talking points and labels to silence the opposition? Slavery should not be cheapened by using it to compare to a poorly written piece of legislation. As for the Bible letter, which part of the Bible?

nortman, The Bible says to 'Judge not lest ye be judged.' Kind of says all that needs to be said. The people referred to in the article are highly judgmental. Enough said.

Artic and Atonally, I agree with both of you. Too many people seem to think that their political ideology is infallable. Just looking at a couple of the posts in this thread as perfect examples of it.

AL Sharpton does a fantastic job defending the general Black population.

Defending blacks against what? Who?

So whitey needs a spokesperson...but then that would be racist...even though the Sharptons and Jacksons of the world financially capitalize on tragedy and opportunity...intriguing dichotomy

But I don't have to like him.

Woolf I have disliked Sharpton since the T.Brawley case years ago.

But I know something you seem to have overlooked. AL Sharpton does a fantastic job defending the general Black population. That's what he is paid to do . Jessie Jackson, and the NAACP do the same thing. that's why they are in existence they are great at organizing and rhetoric; it's what they do. they are spokespeople for their Race and are experts and very good at it.

Now who do white people have for their spokesperson?? Who get's paid to speak for the white race? We have no one that I know of, do you.

All these people and M.L.KING were paid and are/were dedicated to defending their race and WE don't seem to care enough to hire someone to speak for us.

So my hat is off to these experts they annoy you and I and do an excellent job. for the people who pay them.

Till we find one for us. I'll sit back and wait for our man or organization to come along and keep praising the job Sharpton does.

AtonallyStrummed, I think you hit one nail right on the head. The word lazy. Instead of the people actually talking about things, they call each other names and point fingers. Why? Because it takes less effort. It is the lazy way out. The people have stopped thinking about solutions and the correct ways of fixing anything. It take WAY LESS thought to simply blame the other guy. Lazy is a perfect word. The country has become lazy intellectually. If we are not told what to think and say on the cable news channel, or not told what side is the bad guys, or good guys, too many can not, or even attempt to work at finding the truth. Lazy is a perfect definition of what too many have become.

ArcticWoof I totally agree. Most Americans seem incapable or unwilling to debate the issues. Maybe we became lazy due to our prosperity after WWII.

So many people fall for the name calling (teabaggers, dumbocrats, etc.) and partisan allegiances without bothering to use their minds.

It is all about name calling, Teabags, Democraps, Odumbo, Tearrorist, the party of no, the party of entitlements. The list goes forever. That is where the actual maturity ends. It is easier to point fingers and call names than actually sit down to solve problems. There lies the other problem. The jerks in Washington do not care to solve problems. They prefer to feed the rhetorical frenzy. Propaganda is being used as a method of winning political points. Now we as citizens rely on political hatred, racial hatred, religious hatred to provide us with answers to our problems. Instead of solving problems as adults, too many only know one response, " my side is right "

Too many people will simply attack the likes of Limbaugh, Hannity and Palin, but will ignore the radical ramblings of Sharpton, Matthews and Maxine Waters. It swings both ways also, the far right supporters will simply attack the far left people. Not enough people can simply say, yes, the people I support have made mistakes. Regardless of sides. I watch all news channels. I think Sharpton is nothing but a quack, but I do watch on occasion to to see what is being said from the left. I also do not agree with the Hannitys of the right. So therefore lies the answer to your question, why the drama. Because both sides crave the drama, they crave the hatred and they crave the fight, not enough people will simply debate the problems, attempt to fic the issues. It is all about power, and never compromise. It is all about the attack mode.

nortman, this is exactly whay I have stopped commenting much on this website other than a Good Morning or Have a nice day comment. Many fools, and yes, I said fools, are so entrenched into political rhetoric and ideology, they simply can not think for themselves anymore, nor do they desire to. It is no longer about debating what is right, or wrong. It is all about pointing fingers and name calling at any person or group that may not support " my side ". Very few people will admit anymore that thier side could be possibly in the wrong. It has become childish to the point that is shows just how seperated this country is.

Because, if they claim to be Bible thumpers, then they should live up to it. Not the apposite. As far as O'Reilly and Limbaugh go? Come on now, You now as well as I that it is not fair that some people are more weak minded than others and will actually believe what people like that have to say thus becoming Indoctrinated into thinking and doing those evil things themselves.

So, should they go by what is written in Leviticus? You can "cherry pick" many parts of the Bible to fit whatever you are arguing. That's why I find people who argue against homosexuality by quoting the Bible when they seem unable to find the parts about caring for others. Just like the letter here about O'Reilly and Limbaugh, they seem to focus on "give all of your money to others" while ignoring the whole "teach a man to fish" part.

The Bible parts you don't seem to know or seem to have never heard. They are pretty popular.
