COLUMBUS The fate of Trumbull County Democratic Party Chairman Dan Polivka is on hold for at least another 60 days.
The Ohio Democratic Party executive committee tonight appointed Tim Burke, Hamilton County Democratic chairman, to investigate a complaint that the Trumbull County Democrats used a secret ballot in the process of filling an unexpired county commissioner term. State and national parties prohibit the use of secret ballots.
ODP Chairman Chris Redfern had threatened to have Polivka removed as county party chair tonight. Instead Burke has 60 days to investigate and report back to the committee about Trumbull's selection process, which used both a secret ballot and an open affirmation.
If during those 60 days the county party changes the way it chooses to do business, the investigation and all sanctions will be dropped.
In the meantime, Redfern's suspension of franking (bulk mailing) privileges and access to the electronic voter database remain in place against the Trumbull County party.
