COLUMBUS -- The Ohio Democratic Party executive committee tonight decided against suspending Dan Polivka as chairman of the Trumbull County party -- for now.
Instead, the committee appointed an examiner to investigate the complain that Trumbull County Democrats used a secret ballot in the process of selecting someone to fill an unexpired term for county commissioner. The state and national parties prohibit use of secret ballots.
In the meantime, the sanctions imposed by ODP Chairman Chris Redfern -- the removal of franking (bulk mailing) privileges and access to the electronic voter database -- remain in place.
Tribune Chronicle politics reporter Ron Selak Jr. is in Columbus and will file details on this meeting, still underway, in the Thursday Tribune Chronicle.
