During the 2008 presidential campaign, there were numerous promises made by candidate Barack Obama.
Here are just a few that I can distinctly remember: transparency and rule of law in his administration, the end to K street, the influence of lobbyist was going to be minimized, and he would support the people on Main Street, not Wall Street.
He also touted his skill at listening to both parties, with the ability to get them to work together for a common goal, and a public option for medical insurance that would bring down the cost for all of us. These are just a few of the domestic issues that were brought up during that election.
Now, as we look at five-plus years in office, what has our president accomplished?
The ACA was passed behind closed doors, so I guess we can throw out transparency.
The president signed into law a bill that permits the government to hold anyone suspected of being associated with terrorism without the right to due process for an indefinite amount of time. There goes rule of law along with habeas corpus.
Lobbyists still play a major role. He bails out Wall Street and not the people on Main Street, unless you believe in trickle-down economics, which most Democrats flaunt as a huge failure.
His so-called skill at getting groups of people to work together seems to have disappeared once elected. Our health care is now more unaffordable and cumbersome than ever before and the full impact of the ACA is still an unknown.
Knowing that many campaign promises fall short, let's look at how ethically this administration has performed. The ATF gun-walking scandal known as ''Fast and Furious,'' which gets a United States border patrol agent killed along with more than 150 Mexicans killed or wounded. The Benghazi attack was falsely reported to all of us and no help was offered prior to the attack or attempted during the attack.
The IRS scandal, in which Lois Lerner's computer hard drive fails and all of her work information disappears - would you be able to get away with telling the IRS that your hard drive crashed and all of your tax information is gone? Let's not forget the Associated Press phone records, and the list goes on.
We hear about the income and wealth inequality in America and how we need to learn how to live within our means as the first family spares no expense when they travel on the taxpayer's dime. I guess this is what they call leadership.
A man with all words and no deeds is like a garden full of weeds; this old nursery rhyme is just as true today as when it was written. We better do some weeding and remember to vote for the person that has done something significant in their life, serving others and not someone who can only talk a great game.
