Vigil over Ferguson case

August 21, 2014
Tribune Chronicle

Organizers said that in Trumbull County, vigils were scheduled at First Presbyterian Church in Mineral Ridge and at Vienna Presbyterian Church in Trumbull County, but no one was present at either location when a Tribune Chronicle reporter was there. The prayer vigils were timed to coincide with a 1,000-clergy march and peaceful rally at the prosecutor's office in Clayton, Mo., led by the People In Communities Organizing National Network, billed as the largest grassroots, faith-based organizing network in the the nation. The Mahoning Valley Organizing Collaborative is an affiliate member. The vigils are meant to mark the beginning of a series of open and intentional conversations to address racial injustices faced by people of color in low-income communities locally and nationally.

The Rev. Christopher McKee Jr. leads prayer Wednesday night in Youngstown while Tabernacle Baptist Church congregants hold hands. The church took the lead in what was scheduled as 17 Mahoning Valley congregations and local leaders joining simultaneous Faith on the Move prayer vigils nationally, calling for justice in Ferguson, Mo., and across the country.
