CORTLAND - Paul S. Minton, 70, of Cortland, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2014, at Shepherd of the Valley in Niles.
He was born May 14, 1944, in Hamilton, the youngest of the late Joseph Minton and Louisa Hurley Minton Reid.
Paul earned his bachelor's degree from Hiram College in 2000. He was a paramedic, working in the field of emergency medicine for more than 30 years. In addition to his work, Paul was a member of the local Critical Incident Stress Debriefing team, which assists emergency staff, as well as a member of the County Emergency Disaster Planning Committee before his retirement in 2005. He also taught EMS and other safety classes / presentations throughout his life.
Paul was a devoted husband, father, brother and uncle. Paul's memory will be cherished by his daughters, Deborah Minton of Cortland and Gina (David) Gilcher of Clover, S.C.; grandchildren, Alex and Emily; siblings, Bonnie Mahaffey of Monroe, Dewey Minton of Brookville, Ind., Robert Minton of Hamilton and Shirley Sayres of Newton Falls; as well as many loving nieces, nephews and other "adopted" family members. Paul also leaves behind all of the emergency personnel that he worked and trained with and the families he assisted through the years.
He was preceded in death by Rita, his loving wife of 45 years; his parents; and two brothers, James E. and Tom Minton.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, where the Rev. Marty CashBurless will officiate. Family and friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home.
