FARMDALE - Gene A Smith, 86, died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2014, at his home with his family by his side.
He was born Sept. 22, 1927 in Greene, a son of Catherine Crouch and Charles A. Smith.
Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Army, having served in the Korean War. He was a train engineer for the former Copperweld Steel of Warren, for more than 40 years.
On Nov. 4, 1951, he married Ada M. Hines.
Mr. Smith was a member of the Harry Lees American Legion Post and enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing.
Survivors include his daughter, Dolly M. Davis of Farmdale; his son, David G. Smith of Warren; four granddaughters, Sandra, Janet, Jennifer and Sarah; a sister, Phyllis Smith of Vienna; a brother, Earl E. Smith Sr. of Gustavus, and 10 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 58 years, Ada M. Smith; a great-granddaughter, Kayla Osborne; five sisters, Evelyn Meister, Mary Tretera, Arlene Brownlee, Helen Herbert, and Dorothy Stevens and three brothers, Robert L. Smith, Emerson L. Smith, Charles Smith, Sr. and Frederick G. Smith.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Baumgardner Funeral & Cremation Service, 8569 Main St., Kinsman, with Pastor Jim Smith officiating.
Burial will follow in Kinsman Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held 2 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.
