APPLICATIONS TAKEN FOR POLICE AWARENESS TRAINING: Applications are being accepted for the Warren Police Department's Citizens Police Awareness Academy training. The next class is scheduled to start in September.
Classes will be held one night a week in the roll call room of the police department. Residents can obtain an application from the City of Warren's website, www.warren.org, or by stopping at the records department, 141 South St.
During the six-week course, residents are given an overview of police policies and procedures and community safety initiative (for anyone interested in starting or currently a part of a neighborhood watch). Trumbull 100 recently awarded a grant in support of the classes.

COMMONFEST TO BE HELD: The Commons Fest "A Festival of Learnshops," brought by the Robins Project will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday in Courthouse Square. More than 20 local nonprofits, civic organizations, artists, businesses and community members are scheduled.
Festival-goers will have the chance to participate in numerous educational and hands-on activities led by local groups working towards positive redevelopment in Warren. There will be bike safety checks, crafts, workshops, live entertainment from local acts and prize give-aways.
Community members are encouraged to share their talents during an open mic and 1920s costume contest.
