Fact Box

Juvenile games cause concerns

NEWTON FALLS - Kids causing a ruckus in the village park brought in several calls to the police on Aug. 6.

About 5:15 p.m. a report was made of juveniles using foul language in the park. At 11:20 p.m., juveniles were reportedly jumping on picnic tables.

Upon an officer's arrival both times, however, the juveniles were nowhere to be seen.

Police arrest two after purse snatching

NILES - Two uncooperative people were arrested shortly after a purse was reported stolen from a shopping cart at Macali's Giant Eagle, police said.

Officers were called just before 6:30 p.m. July 28 and told that an orange Kia took off after one of the two people in the car snatched a purse from a victim's cart. Officers headed east on Robbins Avenue and saw the car driving east near Carnegie Avenue.

Officers stopped the vehicle at a McDonald's restaurant parking lot. The two suspects were told to place their hands in the air, but they repeatedly dropped their hands in an attempt to conceal something in the front compartment of the vehicle, police said.

After backup arrived, the female passenger was removed from the car, and officers saw a purse partially covered by a floor mat. It was the same purse reported stolen, and contained the victim's personal property, including credit cards and a checkbook.

Emily Preece, 37, of 226 S. Davis St., Girard, and Robert Kwiencinski, 35, of 166 Madison St., were both arrested on a charge of aggravated robbery, and Kwiencinski was also cited with driving under suspension, police said.

Man looking for work suspected in home heist

BRACEVILLE - An 82-year-old woman on Kale Adams Road told Trumbull sheriff's deputies that she told two men who approached her at her home on Aug. 3 that she had no work for them. Then the men begged for work, so she allowed them to cut down two small trees in the rear of her house.

The men returned the next day to complete the job and clean up.

At one point the woman and the two men sat on the front porch and one of the men said he needed to sharpen his saw blade before continuing.

The woman took the man into her garage out back and gave him a file, leaving the second man alone on the front porch near an unlocked door.

It wasn't until the next day that the woman noticed her jewelry box missing along with her purse containing $150 and an envelope containing $2,150. An estimated $800 worth of jewelry was in the box.
