NILES - The Niles Historical Society will hold its annual Heritage Day celebration from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday on the grounds of the Ward Thomas House and Museum, 503 Brown St.
The event is providing an opportunity for the community to enjoy a relaxing afternoon which showcases the area's past history.
The public will be able to tour the Ward Thomas Home, the barn, Westenfield Room and gardens of the property in addition to seeing local artisans quilting, basket weaving, canning and spinning wool.
Sandy Bilovesky, a historical society member, said one of the main attractions will be a "Birds in Flight" show featuring Heather Merritt, a rehabilitator and research expert specializing in raptors, or birds of prey.
She will bring live birds and animals to explain her research work and show the care she provides. The show is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Along with the bird presentation, many new displays have been added throughout the museum grounds.
In addition to Civil War demonstrations and piano music by Little Joe, guest artist Rick Muccio will create character drawings starting at noon.
There will be various activities, food and entertainment throughout the day, including games and crafts for the children, so attendants of every age can walk back in time.
There is an event donation with children 12 and younger accompanied by an adult admitted free.
