WARREN - Robert "Fergy" James Ferguson, 57, of Warren, went home to be with the Lord at 9 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2014, at his home, after a seven-month battle with cancer of the throat.
Robert was born Nov. 30, 1956, in Charleroi, Pa., the son of James R. and Mildred E. Stephenson Ferguson.
He graduated from Lordstown High School in 1975.
After graduation, Robert enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. Following his four-year honorable service in the Air Force, he then joined the U.S. Navy, where he served for two years until he was injured.
Robert was employed as a laborer for Dennis Jones Construction for many years. He thought the world of his boss and friend, Dennis.
He was a past member and trustee of the Warren Odd Fellows Lodge 29 in Warren.
In his younger days, he enjoyed building and racing motorcycles. He also enjoyed refinishing wood furniture. He was a die-hard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He loved to pass his time playing Yahtzee. "Game after game we would play." Robert leaves at home "his pride and joy, his four-legged children," his cats, Fidget and Peanut.
Robert's greatest passion was planting flowers all around the Warren Women's Club. He had quite a green thumb and the ladies of the club just loved him.
Memories of Robert will be cherished by the love of his life, his fiancee, Gail L. Bates, with whom he made his home for eight years; his beloved children, son, Eric (Danette) Ferguson of Lordstown and his daughter, Amanda (Brian) Macik of Mineral Ridge; his granddaughters, Peyton Ferguson and Abbey Macik; his grandsons, Tristen Ferguson and Ethen Macik; his two wonderful sisters, Cheryl (Pat Jr.) Cera of Niles and Jamie (Jim) Brown of Bristolville; his stepdaughter, Kristina (Steve O'Hara) Bridgens of Warren; his stepgrandchildren, Dustin M. Letourneau Jr. and Sa'Layha A. O'Hara; his nieces, "the apple of his eye," Jill (Bob Brady) Cuckovich of Warren, and Joylyn (Mark) Gumola; his nephews, David (Debbie) Dudgeon of Pittsburgh, Michael (Stacy) Rozzo of Bristolville, P.J. (Nancy) Rozzo of Columbus and James (Lindsay) Brown; his great-niece, Jayden Hill of Hubbard, who, with her drawings and songs, were an inspiration for Robert to get better; his future in-laws, Jim and Sandy Bates of Cortland, whom Robert called fondly, "Dad and Mom;" his friends, Rodger (Venetta) Collins of Diamond, Terrance "Bear" Belden and Amanda of Champion and Tim (Jeannie) Coudreit of Niles; and many more relatives and friends.
He was preceded by his parents and his brother, James E. Ferguson.
The family is honoring Robert's wishes and cremation has taken place.
A memorial service with military honors to be held by the Newton Falls Veterans Honor Guard will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Warren's Women's Club, 708 N. Park Ave., Warren.
Arrangements for Robert were entrusted to the Borowski Funeral Service and Oak Meadow Cremation Services.
