CORTLAND - Leo Alexander Peters, 84, of Cortland, died 5:50 a.m. Monday, July 28, 2014, at Windsor House of Champion.
He was born May 7, 1930, in New Castle, Pa., the son of the late Alexander and Florence Spears Peters.
Leo was a business owner / engineer at LJN Inc. for 10 years in El Paso, Texas.
Throughout his life, he was very involved in the Masons. He received the York Cross and was a 32nd degree Mason. Leo was past commander of the Warren Commandery 39, and was past master of the Gustavus 442 Masonic Lodge.
Mr. Peters was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during peacetime.
Survivors include his wife, the former Natalie Matthews, whom he married March 30, 1951; his children, Patricia Burns and Terry Peters, both of Warren, and Scott (Karen) Peters of Cortland; five grandchildren, Laurie Beth Burns, Julie Peters, Natalie Burns, Robert (Rachel) Smith and Lacina Smith; five great-grandchildren; and his sister, Louise Biega of St. Louis, Mo.
Other than his parents, Leo was preceded in death by his siblings, William and Jimmy Peters, Katherine Grundy, Helen Glitch, Mary Gardner and Betty Jane Dilley.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Shafer-Winans Chapel in Cortland, where family and friends may visit from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Pastor Bill Carter will celebrate Leo's life. Masonic services will be held 10:45 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
