Sun., 6:30pm: Weather hampers local events

July 27, 2014
Tribune Chronicle

Severe weather caused cancellations and changes to area events on Sunday.

Power outages were reported in Champion in the area of Routes 45 and 305. A wire was reported to be sparking at 5033 Mahoning Avenue near Champion Street West and Gertrude Avenue.

Because of the severe Sunday afternoon weather, the Warren citywide community youth choir's annual summer concert was moved from the amphitheater to inside Greater Apostolic Faith Church.

The McDonald Thunder in the Park car show was cancelled and rescheduled for Sept. 7.

A tornado watch was issued for the area until 9 p.m. Sunday. Strong to severe thunderstorm were reported and were expected to continue overnight until a cold front slides through and cooler air begins moving into the area today.

Cooler air will be in place Monday with highs only in the upper 60s to near 70.
