According to firefighters on the scene, apartment 75-B is a total loss, while 75-A, the apartment on the left of the complex, has smoke damage.
Newton Falls Mayor Lyle Waddell said the township worked quickly to aid the four people and one dog living there.
"An adult and three children were living (in the apartment), so the police chief, fire chief and I all contacted the Red Cross to get together some food and temporary housing set up," Waddell said. "Situations like this are difficult, but everyone here always comes together and we help out any way we can."
