Niles man on probation after molestation charge
WARREN - A 41-year-old Niles man was sentenced to serve five years probation after pleading guilty to molesting a 9-year-old girl.
James Mitchell Ingles Jr., of Arlington Avenue, who was an assistant coach for the Niles Little Red Dragons, was also ordered to seek drug and alcohol assessments and follow a treatment plan designed by a probation officer. Judge Ronald Rice also ordered that Ingles write a letter of apology to the girl that he fondled.
Ingles' attorney Harry DePietro told the judge his client was so drunk that he didn't remember what he did Feb. 16, 2013.
Ingles also was labeled a Tier II sex offender that requires him to report his address to authorities twice a year for the next 25 years.
He pleaded guilty to a charge of gross sexual imposition in May in exchange for a second count of gross sexual imposition being dismissed.
Ex-judge has law license indefinitely suspended
CLEVELAND - The Ohio Supreme Court has indefinitely suspended the law license of a former Cuyahoga County judge convicted of lying to FBI agents.
A federal jury convicted Bridget McCafferty in August 2011 of 10 counts of making false statements concerning FBI-recorded telephone conversations she had with then-county auditor Frank Russo and a local businessman about cases in her courtroom. A judge sentenced her to 14 months in prison.
The Supreme Court released its 4-3 opinion Thursday to indefinitely suspend McCafferty's license instead of disbarring her and preventing her from practicing law again in Ohio.
Justices favoring disbarment cited her behavior and relationships with Russo and county commissioner Jimmy Dimora. Both men received long prison sentences for their roles in corruption schemes.
McCafferty's attorneys could not be immediately reached.
