LOWELL, Mass. - The Mahoning Valley Scrappers scored six unanserwed runs in the final three innings to end an eight-game losing streak with a 9-3 win over the Lowell Spinners.
With the score tied at three heading into the top fo the seventh, Mahoning Valley (9-20) got the bats going and started driving in runs. Cleveland Indians' 2014 first-round draft pick Bradley Zimmer singled to right field to score Greg Allen, and following a Francisco Mejia double, both Zimmer and Mejia crossed the plate when Taylor Murphy singled to center.
The Scrappers added another three runs to put the game out of reach.
Left fielder Murphy had a big day at the plate for the Scrapper, going 3 for 3 with two runs and two RBIs. Both of those RBIs came with a two outs, and the Scrappers connected to bring in six runs with two outs throughout the game.
Mahoning Valley and Lowell will continue their series with the second of a three games today at 3:30 p.m.
