Katie Gallo, 10, the daughter of Michelle and Michael Gallo of Niles, has been chosen as a state finalist in the National American Miss Ohio pageant July 19-20 at the Hyatt Regency in Columbus.
The pageant is for girls ages 10 to 12.
The newly crowned Miss Pre-Teen Ohio will receive a $1,000 cash award, the official crown and banner, a bouquet of roses, and air transportation to compete in the national pageant at Disneyland in California.
She has the chance to represent the state of Ohio for the entire year. She also will tour Hollywood and walk away with a modeling scholarship.
Pageants are held for girls ages 4 to 18 in five different age groups. Contestants will compete in four overall categories, including formal wear modeling, personal introduction, interview and community service project.
The National American Miss pageant system is dedicated to encouraging America's future leaders. Each year, the pageant awards thousands in scholarships and prizes to recognize and assist in the development of young ladies nationwide.
All activities are age-appropriate and family-oriented.
The organization emphasizes the importance of gaining self-confidence and learning new skills, such as good attitudes about competition, as well as setting and achieving personal goals.
Gallo's activities include playing soccer for the Club Team Soccer Vision Academy, playing basketball, and doing well in school. She also enjoys reading, swimming, and watching "Pretty Little Liars."
