COMING SUNDAY: The annual Trumbull County Fair kicks off this week, and this year -- along with tractor and truck pulls, bull riders, stock cars, carnival games and farm animals it will feature some Marvelous Mutts.
From catching Frisbees to sliding into big tanks of water and other acts, these tricky canines will be seen at least twice a day from Tuesday through Sunday near the Grandstand as the fair begins its 168th year.
Fair President Thomas Sawyer, who has been involved with the county event for more than 35 years, said he has always hoped to draw in a crowd of 100,000. In past years, they have come close, bringing in more than 70,000 fairgoers.
Last year, the fair was hit with a heavy thunderstorm on its second day, which dropped nearly 4 inches of rain on the grounds and closed many of the day's attractions and rides.
So far, this week's forecast is mostly clear, but Tuesday -- the fair's opening day -- shows a 50 percent chance of stormy skies.
