SCHOOL RETIREES ANNOUNCE MEETING: Howland Schools Retirees will meet at 11 a.m. on the second Tuesday of the month for July only on July 8, at Enzo's. The restaurant will be closed the first week of July. All retired Howland Schools employees and spouses/guests are welcome to attend the monthly meetings. Those who retired this school year are encouraged to come join your fellow retirees.
Cost of the lunch is payable at the door. Choose from the four entrees offered.
The collection of paper goods, nonperishable food, lemonade and iced tea mixes will be delivered to Beatitude House after the meeting. Your donation of an item or two will be most appreciated.

SENIOR COURT OFFERS DRIVING REVIEW: Trumbull County Senior Court AARP Driver's Safety Program offers a certified instructor to provide a review of driving skills and techniques as well as strategies to help seniors adjust to physical changes that may affect their driving ability. Class will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. July 8 at the Girard Multigenerational Center, and from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. July 29 at the Niles SCOPE. Call to reserve/your place 330-675-2616.
AAA OFFERS MATURE COURSES: AAA East Central will hold a series of Mature Operator Courses in the Youngstown area this summer and fall. AAA Mature Operator courses are defensive driving courses designed to meet the information needs and interests of drivers over 55 years of age.

TCAP SENIOR CENTER: The Trumbull Community Action Program senior center offers activities, games and fellowship. Activities include bingo, quilting and card club. The center contains a big-screen TV and puts on a movie day once a month.
All seniors 60 and older receive a 10 percent discount in the food co-op on Thursday.
Computer classes will become available soon; offering hands-on training for those wanting to learn different aspects of operating a computer. Basic Internet usage, online activities and email set-up are just a few of the programs that will be taught during the free training.

NUTRITION SITES AVAILABLE: The Trumbull County Nutrition Program for the Elderly is provided by the Trumbull County Office of Elderly Affairs and operates nutrition sites at 11 locations throughout Trumbull County. HOME DELIVERY AVAILABLE: The Trumbull County Office of Elderly Affairs has openings in most areas of Trumbull County to provide home delivered meals to eligible residents.
In order to be eligible for the home delivered meal service, people must meet the following criteria:
Be a Trumbull County resident.
Age 60 or older or the spouse of someone age 60 or older.
Homebound (If a person drives or gets out with others on a regular basis, they would not normally be considered to be homebound.)
Unable to cook for themselves and not living with family or others who can cook for them.
The Office of Elderly Affairs provides one well-balanced meal per day, five days a week (Monday through Friday except legal holidays) for a donation of whatever a client can afford to pay. This is not a program just for low-income people, it is for all eligible people.
Another advantage of this program is that the delivery person provides daily human contact with the homebound senior. They are able to report when they notice problems or life-threatening changes.

TRANSPORTATION AVAILABLE TO NUTRITION SITES: Area Agency 11 awarded a grant to Trumbull Community Action Program to transport senior citizens to the nutrition sites in Trumbull County that are operated by the Office of Elderly Affairs.
Transportation is for people 60 or older or the spouse of someone 60 or older. People wanting to use the service need to call TCAP at 330-395-2287 to schedule rides and the Trumbull County Office of Elderly Affairs at 330-675-2486 to make meal reservations. Both calls need to be made prior to 3 p.m. two working days before they wish to go.
People will be asked to make a donation for both their ride (while on the van) and for their meal (while at the nutrition site).
