GIRARD - Irene Parisi Pagano, 79, loving wife of the late Guy Pagano, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 13, 2014, at St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Irene was born Feb. 1, 1935, the daughter of Anthony and Carmella Parisi.
Girard became Irene's home after marrying Guy Pagano in Roccalumera, Sicily, on Valentine's Day in 1953. She was a devoted member of St. Rose Church in Girard.
In the early years, she worked as a seamstress for her and her husband's business, Pagano's Cleaners, and then worked at Benada Aluminum. Later, she baby-sat for many children who will never forget their time with "Aunt Irene." She was a hard worker, but her favorite job was dedicating her life to helping and caring for others. She loved to cook and teach others to cook.
Besides socializing over a cup of coffee with friends and family, her passions were taking care of her indoor plants and her outdoor garden and marathon shopping.
Irene was a devoted member of St. Rose Parish in Girard. She was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, the Mount Carmel Society and the Sons of Italy.
Irene leaves her daughters, Marylu (James) Ralls, Angela (Glenn) Moore, Laurie (David) Raver and Janet (Richard) Russell; grandchildren, Alex and Jana Creel of Baytown, Texas; sister, Lena Parisi, and brother, Paul (Mary) Parisi, both of Roccalumera, Sicily; brother, Joseph (Rose) Parisi of Girard; sister, Mary (Joseph) Montevideo of Niles; brothers-in-law, Sam (Dahlia) Pagano and Andrew (Millie) Petrella, both of Girard; and brother-in-law, James Petrella, and sister-in-law, Angela (Felix) Bevilacqua.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Guy, who passed away just three months ago, and mother-in-law, Maria Pagano Petrella, with whom she shared a home for more than 50 years in Girard. In addition, she was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Frank Parisi of Roccalumera.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Rose Church, preceded by a prayer service at 10:30 a.m. at Blackstone Funeral Home in Girard. The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Irene will be laid to rest in Girard City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions for the American Cancer Society, 525 N. Broad St., Canfield, OH 44406, or the Angels Fund for St. Rose Church.
