CORTLAND - Douglas Dale Welker, 71, passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at his residence in Cortland.
Doug was born on Aug. 29, 1942, in Warren to the late Gail and Verna Steele Welker.
Doug was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and was a member of Masons Lodge 529 as a 32nd degree Mason of the Scottish Rite. Doug was a lifetime member of the Vienna AMVETS Post 290, member of the Cortland Moose Lodge 1012, the NRA, the Disabled American Veterans since 1980, and the Old Model A Club.
He enjoyed woodworking, guns, motorcycles, and spending time with his friends, aka "Lunch Bunch" and Sunday morning breakfasts with his daughter and grandchildren.
Doug is survived by his daughter, Christine L. Nidel; grandson, Joseph M. Nidel; granddaughter, Jenna L. Nidel; brother, Jack Welker; and a nephew, David Hassler.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Cleo Ann Hassler.
Calling hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Lane Family Funeral Homes, Roberts Clark Chapel, 180 Garfield Drive N.E, with Masonic services by the Cortland Masons Lodge 529 beginning at 4:45 p.m.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Entombment will follow at Crown Hill Burial Park Chapel of Love with military honors.
