Sometimes as we go through life there are times when we just don't get it. I was not very good at algebra in school, and I often said to myself, "I don't get it."
I should have asked for help, but I really wasn't that interested in what "x" stood for. As a young man, there were other, more important things on my mind. At least I thought they were more important.
Occasionally we hear a joke that we don't quite understand. We may laugh at it, as though we get it, but we really don't. Strange how we hate to admit we don't get it.
There are many mysteries in life I don't get. Some of them involve the country I love. Why can't politicians answer a question with a simple yes or no? Why do they have so much trouble with truth? Why can't they balance the budget? Why do we have a 2,000-plus page tax code, and why do we need accountant and tax specialist to figure our taxes? If we trust in God, why are we removing him day by day from our lives? What in the world is gay marriage if not an absolute insult to God? Is abortion really a form of birth control? Is the answer to the drug problem in our country legalizing more of them?
Do we really believe that a society as divided as ours over secular versus Christian values can survive the test of time?
These are a few things I don't get. On the other hand, one of the simplest things in life to get is one of the most elusive for many people. There is a truth known only to God and each individual he knows. The truth is when that light deep within our soul finally comes on and we say to God, "I get it," and because I get it, I will love you with all my heart, my soul and my strength.
I hope America gets it soon.
