THE TRUMBULL BASKETBALL SCHOOL at the Niles Wellness Center will again be holding two summer basketball camps in June for both boys and girls. The first camp will be on June 16, 17, and 18 for second through fifth grades from 9 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. with the cost being $50. This camp will be strictly fundamentals. The second camp will be on June 23, 24, 25 and 26 for fifth through eighth grades from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with cost being $100. This camp will be a combination of fundamentals and team play. PENN-OHIO STORM is holding a basketball skills camp for girls and boys in kindergarten through ninth grade on June 23 through 27. WARREN G. HARDING BASKETBALL will be holding a summer camp June 30 through July 3 for students in third through ninth grade. Grades 3-6 will be from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and Grades 7-9 will be from noon to 3 p.m. If the student is a participant in the Inspiring Minds Program, the camp is free of charge. HOWLAND GIRLS BASKETBALL is holding a camp for girls in grades five through nine. The dates for the camp are June 9, 10, 11 and 12 from 9 a.m. to noon at the high school. The cost of the camp is $45. Participants can register that day or pick up a form from the school.
TRUMBULL COUNTY TENNIS ASSOCIATION is sponsoring tennis tournaments for the summer. All tournaments will be played at the newly resurfaced Packard Park tennis courts in Warren. Tournament revenues go toward scholarships from selected participants moving on to college. The scholarships are given based on four different criteria - being a great player or playing tennis in college are not among them. The tournament dates are: June 4-8 Seven-Seventeen Credit Union - Keith Vens Memorial; June 23-29 AVI Classic; July 16-20 Panera Bread Tournament; Aug. 5-10 Gary Dieter Memorial.
THE 2014 MOSQUITO LAKE CHASE 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk to benefit the Maplewood Running Rockets will be held on Monday at Maplewood High School. The 1-mile fun walk begins at 8:45 a.m. and the 5K run begins at 9 a.m. Entry fee is $16 for pre-registered runners. Race day entry fee is $20. Waiver must be signed to be registered. THE 24th ANNUAL MEMORIAL MILE will be held on May 26 at 9:35 a.m. in Boardman. Some of the best runners in the area will compete for gift certificates and awards in 14 age groups. IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY IN AUSTINTOWN is holding the church festival 5K on June 5. Start time for the 5K is 7 p.m. A short distance, quarter-mile children's run will begin before the 5K. THE THIRD ANNUAL FRIENDS OF BUHL PARK 5K/2-mile walk/1-mile race will be held at 10 a.m. June 7. The event will be held at Buhl Park and registration on the day of the race will be held at the Buhl/Timblin Casino from 8 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Proceeds from the race benefit Buhl Park. THE 2014 PATH FOR PATRIOTISM, a 5K run, 2-mile run/walk or a 1-mile roll will be held June 14 at the Trumbull County Fairgrounds. The race is an Eagle Scout Project for Bristol's Ben Woods and will benefit the disabled American veterans. The 1-mile roll begins at 4:30 p.m., the 2-mile walk starts at 5 p.m. and the 5K begins at 6 p.m. Day of race registration will begin at 3 p.m. underneath the grandstands. The entry fee is $30 for the 5K, $25 for the 2-mile and $20 for the 1-mile. All of those fees are non-refundable and due by June 1. The first 100 preregistered participants will receive at T-shirt.
