The King family of Bristolville - Rex Sr., Rex Jr. and his brother Russ, known as "We Three Kings" - have ruled over the local race scene in this early season, already posting wins at Sharon Speedway in Hartford and Lernerville Speedway in Sarver, Pa.
Rex Sr. won opening night at Sharon in the Big Block Modified feature with Rex Jr. placing third. The following week, Rex Jr. won at Sharon.
On opening night at Lernerville Speedway, Russ won the Late Model Feature event. The following week, Rex Jr. won the Modified feature while Rex Sr. finished second. Russ had another successful week and finished second in the Late Models. This past weekend at Lernerville, Rex Sr. won the Modified main event and Junior finished second. Jim Rasey of Southington, after missing much of last year, has been knocking on the door, finishing a second and third in the Mods. It should only be a matter of time till he makes his way to the winner's circle.
Last weekend was a good weekend for Trumbull County racers. Dave Blaney - in a Sprint car of his own design - won at Roaring Knob in Pennsylvania and finished sixth against the World of Outlaws and the Pennsylvania Posse at Williams Grove. Brother Dale Blaney won at Attica Speedway and finished second at Freemont in his Sprint car. Dave's son Ryan Blaney set fast time and finished second at Iowa in the NASCAR Nationwide series. Jimmy Weller III finished 14th in the NASCAR Truck Series at Charlotte and the Kings won at Lernerville Speedway.
All this confirms something that area residents have known for a long long time - if you can compete with the best this area has to offer, whether it be auto racing, football or baseball, you can compete with the best anywhere.
