New this week on DVD / Blu-ray:
"The Monuments Men" - The true story of a group of mostly middle-aged art historians/experts recruited to help find and protect artistic treasures during World War II is turned into an entertaining men-on-a-mission tale with a great ensemble cast featuring George Clooney, Matt Damon, Cate Blanchett, Bill Murray, Bob Balaban, John Goodman, Jean Dujardin and Hugh Bonneville. It won't be an Oscar contender, but it's a better movie than the mixed critical response it received would indicate.
All versions include the featurettes "George Clooney's Mission" and "Marshaling the Cast." Blu-ray buyers also get deleted scenes and two additional featurettes, "The Real Monuments Men" and "A Woman Amongst the Monuments Men." (Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, $30.99 DVD, $40.99 Blu-ray)
"Pompeii" - Kit Harrington plays a slave-turned-gladiator trying to save the woman (Emily Browning) he loves from being forced to marry a corrupt senator (Kiefer Sutherland) in this action tale directed by Paul W.S. Anderson.
A commentary track with the filmmakers and the featurettes "The Assembly" and "The Volcanic Eruption" are included on all versions. The Blu-ray editions include 20 deleted and alternate scenes as well as additional featurettes focusing on the stunts, production design, costume design and the ancient history that loosely inspired the film. (Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, $30.99 DVD, $35.99 Blu-ray, $45.99 3D Blu-ray)
"About Last Night" - Kevin Hart, Michael Ealy, Regina Hall, Christopher McDonald and Joy Bryant star in this remake of the Rob Lowe-Demi Moore movie of the same name that looks at the challenges of dating among young singles.
The featurette "An Un-Romantic Comedy" comes with all editions. On the Blu-ray, the cast offers relationship advice and the featurette "I Love You?" looks at the effect those words have on a relationship. (Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, $30.99 DVD, $35.99 Blu-ray)
"3 Days to Kill" - A Secret Service agent (Kevin Costner) with a terminal illness is offered an experimental drug that could save his life - if he does one last job. The only problem is the assignment comes at the same time he's supposed to be taking care of his teenaged daughter (Hailee Steinfeld). Amber Heard and Connie Nielsen costar.
The Blu-ray includes an extended cut of the film as well as a making-of featurette and "McG's Mission." All versions include the featurette "Covert Mission." (20th Century Fox Home Entertainment,
"Grand Piano" - Elijah Wood plays a concert pianist returning to the stage for the first time in years because of debilitating stage fright. Right before he goes on stage he gets a message that if he plays one wrong note, he'll be killed. John Cusack costars in this thriller. (Magnolia Home Entertainment, $26.98 DVD, $29.98 Blu-ray)
"Vampire Academy" - Not all movies based on best-selling young adult novels are box-office gold. This film based on the series of books set at a boarding school for peaceful vampires and their half-human / half-vampire guardians pretty much killed any hopes of the rest of the books making it to the screen.
Extras include an alternate opening, deleted scenes and a conversation with author Richelle Mead. (Anchor Bay, $29.98 DVD, $39.99 Blu-ray)
"In Secret" - Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Felton, Jessica Lange and Oscar Isaac star in a movie, based on Emile Zola's 19th Century novel "Therese Raquin," about a woman trapped in a loveless marriage who falls in love with her husband's friend.
Writer / director Charlie Stratton recorded a commentary track, and the disc also includes deleted scenes. (Lionsgate Home Entertainment, $26.98 DVD)
