SHALERSVILLE TOWNSHIP A couple from California is facing felony drug charges after the Ohio State Highway Patrol seized 50 pounds of hydroponic marijuana, worth approximately $110,000, following a traffic stop in Portage County.
Troopers stopped a 2006 GMC 2500 pick-up truck, with California registration, for an improper lane change and following too closely violations on the Ohio Turnpike, near milepost 195, at 11:33 a.m. May 14, according to an OSP news release.
Troopers reported that criminal indicators were observed and a patrol drug-sniffing canine alerted them to the vehicle. A probable cause search revealed a small amount of methamphetamine in the passenger compartment. Troopers also discovered 50 pounds of hydroponic marijuana in the toolbox in the bed of the truck.
The couple, Pamela Denna, 42, and Vinson Denna , 48, both of Paradise, Calf., were incarcerated in the Portage County Jail, and charged with trafficking in marijuana, a first-degree felony; possession of marijuana, a second-degree felony and possession of methamphetamine, a fifth-degree felony.
If convicted, each could face up to 19 years in prison and up to a $37,500 fine.
