MCDONALD -- The owner of a local pizza business told investigators he filed a false report in which he claimed he had been robbed of $32,000 because he was being blackmailed.
Jim Ianazone initially told police that he was held at gunpoint by two men outside Ianzone's Pizza on East Marshall Street last Thursday. He reported that the robbers drove away in a white Chevy Cruze with $32,000.
The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation, which assisted McDonald police, found that no robbery occurred, McDonald police reported today.
According to police, Ianazone confessed that he staged the robbery because he was being extorted for cash and that he has paid an undisclosed amount of money to the two people he had previously accused of robbing him.
