LIBERTY - Several people, including one child, were held hostage for about three hours Sunday afternoon at a house in the 3100 block of Hadley Avenue on Sunday afternoon.
Three individuals, one with a gun, took over the house about 12:30 p.m. Sunday.
"We probably had 60 cops there," Liberty police Chief Richard Tisone said Sunday evening. "It was an ordeal."
Sandra Smith and Kenneth Macek were taken into custody about 3:30 p.m. when they walked out of the house, Tisone said. They are being held in the Trumbull County Jail.
"Off the top of my head, several counts of kidnapping and aggravated robbery," are what they will be charged with, Tisone said.
The third person escaped. Tisone did not provide the person's name but said police are working up a warrant for the person's arrest.
The Mahoning Valley Violent Task Force then entered and secured the home.
Besides a dog in the house biting Smith, there were no injuries.
The Liberty police were aided by police from Youngstown, Girard, and the Mahoning Valley Violent Task Force. A helicopter from the Ohio State Highway Patrol was also on scene, though Tisone said it probably responded since it was close by for the Thunder Over the Valley air show in Vienna.
Details of what set off the hostage situation and who the people inside the house were were not being discussed Sunday. Tisone said the investigation is continuing.
