NEW CASTLE, Pa. - Jack P. Jones, 95, of New Castle, passed away the morning of Thursday, May 15, 2014, in Golden Hill Nursing Home.
Born Sept. 6, 1918, in New Castle, he was a son of John and Sarah Mansell Jones.
Jack was preceded in death in 1993 by his loving wife of 51 years, Helen Mae Cox Jones.
Jack was employed by the New Castle News for 42 years, retiring as the assistant advertising director.
He was a member of the Mahoning Lodge #243 F & AM, New Castle Consistory 32nd Degree, the Syria Shrine of Pittsburgh and Consistory Choir for the Valley of New Castle, and was head usher at the cathedral.
Jack was the founder of the Union Township Volunteer Fire Department, and was a member of the New Castle Fire Department.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by three sons and their wives, Roy A. (Carol) Jones and Bradley L. (Arlene) Jones of New Castle, and Terry L. (Kathy) Jones of Warren; a brother, William E. Jones of Ottumwa, Iowa; a sister, Dorothy Fox of New Castle; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by three sisters.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home and Crematory Inc., 2429 Wilmington Road.
A funeral service will take place 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, and will be officiated by the Rev. Richard Helsel.
Burial will be in Castle View Gardens.
