HOWLAND - Eleanor Higginbottham Conley, 90, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at Gillette Nursing Home in Warren surrounded by her family.
Eleanor was born May 9, 1924, in Detroit, a daughter of the late Maurice and Lucy Benton Wilson.
Her family moved to Mecca in 1935, where she attended West Mecca High School. She enjoyed playing the saxophone during her teen years.
During World War II, she joined the national American Red Cross, working with the blood donor unit. Eleanor was also a member of the Arnold Chapter Blue Star Mothers of Bazetta.
She moved and spent 17 years as a resident of Redford, Mich. An avid artist, she entered numerous art shows, receiving several first place and honor ribbons.
She was a past member of Warren SCOPE, and loved camping and traveling throughout the United States.
In August 2003, Eleanor was united into marriage with Gerald Conley, and they spent 11 loving years together.
Her memories will be cherished by her husband, Gerald; one son, Larry (Deanna) Higginbottham of Champion; two daughters, Donna Wilson of Hudson and Juanita (David) Kersten of Snohomish, Wash.; stepchildren, Bonnie (Jim) Dunbar of Vienna, Beverly Helmick of Cortland and Nancy Newton of Cortland; nine grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Eleanor was preceded in death by her twin sister, Dorothy Freer; and her first two husbands, Dean Higginbottham and Delmer Leatherberry.
Private services will be held Tuesday at Staton-Borowski Funeral Home, 962 North Road N.E., Warren, OH 44483.
