VIENNA - Parking arrangements for the Thunder Over the Valley airshow are set to shuttle guests from satellite parking lots to the Youngstown Air Reserve Station on show days, May 17 and 18.
Because parking at the base is limited, guests must park either at Eastwood Field at the Eastwood Mall in Niles or at Delphi Packard Electric Systems (Phantom Fireworks property) on the corner of North River Road and Larchmont in Warren.
From here, $5 per seat unlimited all-day round trip shuttle service will be provided to and from the station aboard CBS buses by the Youngstown Air Partners. The fee will help subsidize the cost of transporting guests to the station. Admission to Thunder Over The Valley is free and open to the public.
"During our last air show, Air Force funds covered the cost of busing. In the current fiscal climate, that is not possible," said Col. James Dignan, 910th Airlift Wing commander. "We are pleased our private sector community partners are able to transport our guests to the air show for a nominal, but necessary, fee."
Parking will open at 8 a.m. both show days, with shuttles leaving at 8:45 a.m. to the show, which opens at 9 a.m. Opening ceremonies are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. while flying performances begin at 11:45 a.m. Static displays will be on view the entire day.
Shuttle tickets will be available at the lots on show days and in advance at the Eastwood Mall beginning Monday. Buses headed to the show will cease at 3 p.m. though returning buses will continue until the show grounds close at 7 p.m.
Air show guests can tune into several local radio stations that will broadcast real-time traffic and parking updates. These stations include: 93.3 FM, 95.9 FM, 98.9 FM, 106.1 FM, 570 AM and 1390 AM. Additional stations may be added prior to the air show.
