Area bowlers receive state honors
Danny Simmons of Champion, who was a member of the Division II state championship team this season, was named the Ebonite/OHSBCA 2013-2014 Northeast District Senior Bowler of the Year.
Simmons, who averaged a 215 game this season, was a first-team All-Ohio bowler and a member of the Division II state championship team.
Also receiving honors was Noah Thomas, son of Nelson Thomas, formerly of Warren. Thomas currently bowls at St. Charles High School in Columbus.
Warren Striders holding membership drive
The Warren Striders Track Club membership drive runs through May 14. Membership is open to all Trumbull-Mahoning County participants, ages 7-8 through 19 -older. Preseason registrations are scheduled for May 12 and 14 at John F. Kennedy High School field from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.
Fees are $45 for new individual memberships, $35 for an individual renewal, $95 for a new family group of three of the same family ($5 for each additional child) and $85 for a family group renewal. An additional $50 uniform package fee (T-shirt, singlet, shorts) will be assessed with new membership registrations. A discount is afforded to all 2013 Summer club members and those 2014 winter conditioning session participants.
New members must provide two copies of the birth certificate. Those 18 and younger must be accompanied by a parent or adult guardian.

Howland accepting HOF?nominations
The Howland High School Activities Department is accepting nominees for its Athletic Hall of Fame Class of 2014.
Nominating forms are now available in the high school activities office. Nominations will be accepted until Wednesday.
The new Hall of Fame members will be introduced at the Toledo Bowsher football game Friday Sept. 26. The induction ceremony will place Saturday Sept. 27 at Dilucia's Banquet Hall.

Kids fishing derby to be held today in Hubbard
The Hubbard Conservation Club and the Ohio Division of Natural Resources has its kids finish derby today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This is a free program (rain or shine) for all local youth ages 15 and younger. Attendees are asked to bring your own bait.
The pond is located at 1760 Wick-Campbell Road in Hubbard.
The HCC is offering the kids a free lunch and prizes awarded throughout the day, along with a Chinese Auction for parents or other adults in attendance.
Marksmanship program being held for youth
Western Reserve Fish and Game Association will be holding a civilian marksmanship program, which is open to any student from a school that does not have a competitive shooting team and is between the ages of 10 and 18 years old.
The cost is $5 per week with an additional $25 that covers all major competition events.
The association will supply the training, ammunition, awards and travel. Parents do not need to be club members for their child to participate.
Practice is every Monday in either the late afternoon or early evening.

Hubbard club holding CCW class in May
The Hubbard Conservation Club is hosting a comprehensive concealed carry Ohio license course, which makes one eligible for an Ohio concealed carry license.
Classes will begin May 27 at the Hubbard Conservation Club and range. It is being sponsored by the Hubbard Conservation Club and the United Veterans of American - Ohio Post No. 7.
Three NRA-trained instructors and range safety officers will be on site.
The course is 12 hours consisting of two evenings of four hours (6 to 10 p.m.) classroom instruction and a third meeting of two hours for Ohio law in class, plus two hours of range time. Classes begin at 6 p.m. May 27, continuing on May 28 and completed on May 29 based on student/range availability.
All NRA materials, ammunition, use of target pistols, along with eye and ear protection for qualifying will be supplied at a total cost of $95 per student or $180 per couple.

Sportsman's Night Out approaching
Trumbull County Chapter of Ducks Unlimited will be having its annual Sportsman's Night Out on Friday from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at Sorrento's Banquet Room, 2488 Parkman Road N.W. in Warren.
Tickets are $60 for a single or $80 per couple. A youth ticket is $25. The ticket includes membership, meal, and non alcoholic beverages. A cash bar available.
All proceeds to benefit wetlands conservation.
