Trumbull Senior Production Company looks to "Razzle Dazzle" audiences with its next production.
Special to the Tribune Chronicle
The dancers from the Trumbull Senior Production Company will perform several numbers as part of its annual show, “Razzle Dazzle.”
The variety show takes its name from a song from the musical "Chicago" that provides the music for its opening dance number, one of several planned.
Jean Bolinger, treasurer for the group, said company members essentially rehearse year-round in preparation for the annual show.
"It starts right after the last performance," she said. "We have practices all summer that are optional for people who feel they need a refresher class. We start seriously in September, and it's every week."
WHAT: Trumbull Senior Production Company "Razzle Dazzle"
WHEN: 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday
WHERE: Champion High School auditorium, 5976 Mahoning Ave. N.W., Champion
HOW MUCH: $10. Tickets will be available at the door and by calling 330-219-3046.
About 50 performers will take part in "Razzle Dazzle," ranging in age from 53 to mid-80s. Bolinger said the backgrounds and reasons for participating are just as diverse as the age range.
"For me, I tap danced as a kid and gave it up, waiting 57 years to start again when my life went in other directions," Bolinger said. "It's an opportunity to enhance your life. It's an opportunity for people who enjoy performing or think they would enjoy performing to put their toe in the water and see if they like it."
The show is assembled and directed by Jason Burgermyer with Carol Bovee as assistant director and Joey Radza as stage manager.
"There's a lot of tap dancing, a couple of ballet numbers, a jazz number, vocal soloists, a chorus ... some comedy," Bolinger said. "It covers a whole range of music and different eras."
This is the fifth production by the non-profit group founded in 2009. Proceeds from the shows will be used for its scholarship fund, and the recipient of this year's $1,000 scholarship will be announced this weekend at the performances.
