WARREN -- A city patrolman accused of ethics violations and misconduct was a no show at a predisciplinary hearing scheduled today with his chief.
Patrolman Reuben Shaw, who has been on paid leave since July, was to meet with Warren police Chief Eric Merkel this afternoon. City officials said Merkel can move forward to take disciplinary action against Shaw, which could result in the patrolman's immediate termination, if he chooses. Merkel, who has not been available for comment, is expected to make a decision on the matter within the next several days.
Shaw, who is accused of illegally having a vehicle towed from private property June 30, 2013, has also been the subject of a probe by the state Bureau of Investigation. That case was handed over to the Trumbull County Prosecutor's Office last month and is still pending.
Merkel informed Shaw of the hearing in a letter earlier this month. The meeting was initially scheduled to take place last week, but was moved to this afternoon.
